Southport Orchestra are delighted to welcome
our guest soloist, Tom Kimmance to perform the
Greig Piano Concerto.
Tom Kimmance was born on Merseyside and started playing the piano at the age of 13. A late starter, he was entirely self taught until he attended the Liverpool Community Arts College.
He went on to study at Liverpool University and did a BA (Hons) degree. He gained the highest mark on record for a solo undergraduate performance. He has continued to study with John Gough to whom he has dedicated a piano sonata. Tom then went back to university and did a masters degree and got a first. Since then he has been performing solo piano recitals and concertos including performances of his own concerto.
He teaches at High Notes Music School in Crosby and also at various schools in the area and Liverpool University.
He is currently working on his 1st symphony that he hopes to premier next year.

What the Southport Visiter wrote on 15th March about our last concert…
“Clive Anderson reviews Southport Orchestra’s spring Concert
Spring fling for Southport Orchestra
Southport Orchestra, judging by the spring concert at the Church of St Francis of Assisi in Kew, is on very good form and has the ability to take on poetry.
The offering was cosmopolitan and varied, to say the least, and lent itself to the resourcefulness of the splendid orchestra.
At the concert last week, the audience were treated to music by Elgar, Warlock, Hummel and the Norwegian Svendsen (rather like Grieg).
Throughout there were sensible speeds and the intonation was pretty secure all the time, with generally precise entries.
Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony No. 8 and Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides overture were allowed to stand on their own two feet – and palpably did so.
The orchestra also played the known Elgar pairing of Chanson de Nuit and Chanson de Matin very well
The two novelties were Warlock’s English Capriol Suite and Octet Partita by Hummel.
Svendsen’s Romance in G major for solo violin – led by Lesley Mycock and the orchestra – finished the programme. Lesley’s ability to convey and accurate amount of lyrical work, well supported by the orchestra, stood out.
Conductor Jeff Rimmer was great, as usual.”
With thanks to Southport Visiter.
